I know I know, its been a while since my last blog post; alot has happened between then - I launched my little small business so please make sure to check out my vegan + cruelty free skin care range + lipglosses on @qtempireshop! ♡
Okay, enough advertising already, lets get into today’s post; ways you can benefit and improve your skin without spending £££. During the whole of 2020, we had alot of time to be taking care of our skin and during this time, through experimenting different things, I found out ways that you can easily prevent breakouts and even out your skin without using too many products; first, starting with ice.
ICE-ING
ice. yes. ICE. This is the top top top tip out of all the other tips I shall be revealing in this blog post and one I absolutely recommend 10000% as its a game changer and recommended by dermatologists .
You simply get a ice cube, drown it in water for a second so its not rough on the skin and soft enough to use for the skin and simply massaging it in circular motion all over your face and neck (I do this until the ice melts completely). Obviously this varies between different skin types so please do your research on how long you should do it for. I usually do this every two days, after my shower or after deep cleansing face mask and then after icing, I finish it off with a calming serum or a sheet mask. This also helps your skin to absorb whatever products you put on after. You’ll see redness around the skin but thats fine as that is your blood circulating. Yup! This helps with the flow of blood circulation in your face which automatically brightens up your face (amazing for dehydrated or tired skin!)

Not only it helps with inflammation or rashes within the skin, it also helps with acne as it helps soothes your skin through the circulations of your blood flow.
Moreover, this is amaaaazing for the under eyes, because not only it’ll help brighten the under eyes, it also helps with de-puffed eyes. Anything cold always helps de-puffed eyes, hence why many companies have eye cream that consists a cooling metal tip. When doing this, slowly massage the under eyes in a semi-circle motion - (please not too close to the eye, literally a cm or two below the eyes and not too long as it can pop the veins; make sure to be vigilant around the eye area as if kept there directly, doing it for so long or using a ice that is not softening enough to use, it may cause permanent damage!) - make sure to do research around this before you apply to your under eyes and please do with caution or speak to a professional.
Icing your face will show results if you consistently use this technique. I’ve seen a masssssive difference during lockdown and also gotten compliments whenever I would record myself with a bare face; its something thats free yet so powerful and useful for the skin! I love it sooooo much!
Caution:
Please do not leave the ice on your face at one place for so long, it should continuously be massaged in circular motion around your face - if you keep it in one place and do not soften the ice so its smooth enough to use, it may damage your skin, or your underlies which are the most sensitive part of your skin. Of course if your skin starts irritating, burn, sting or feel any sort of discomfort do not continue doing this as your skin might be little too sensitive for this technique. Also, if you have any skin conditions, do speak to a professional before doing this - please do this within your own risk!
Use your face towel, NOT your body towel.
It's okay you don’t have to lie to yourself, im pretty sure 95% of the readers here has done this because its so normal. Whenever you have had a shower or a bath, you wipe your face and your body with the same towel (at least I did) but research says that this should be avoided! Dont get me wrong, I have a separate face towel than a body towel which I always use for the mornings, day and night, whenever I wash my face or need to wipe my face for any reason, but for some reason after having a shower, I would grab my body towel and also wipe my face with that (LOL SOUNDS SO GROSS BUT ITS NORMAL NO?) kinda revealing myself over the internet here but im pretty sure im not the only one here.

It sounds like something obvious to do, using two towels after a shower or bath but some of us don’t because some of us don’t think ahead like that? But changing this routine when having a shower or a bath makes a massive difference, trust me. This is something I started to do last year as well and I felt like my skin improved so much from doing this. This is because the fragrance, hair products, whatever you use in the shower and the sebum on your body, will applied on your face, which you obviously do not want as body care items are made for body only due to how thick your body skin is compared to your face; the face won’t able to hack it, nor would it want your body’s oil production to be smeared over! So what have we learned here? USE TWO SEPARATE TOWELS AFTER A SHOWER OR A BATH!
Oiling and sculpting - Lymphatic Drainage!
Massaging your face is the key to great skin as well as face structure. We end up having some type of fluid within our face which needs to be drained as it may be toxic or wastage within the skin. By massaging your face, it helps remove some swelling within the skin; there are many techniques so see what works for you and what you need to work on when it comes to your skin. There are certain techniques which also helps improve your skin such as gently tapping your forehead like a piano (sounds silly I know) which allows products to really sink into your skin - this is something I do once in a while.

Another technique which I have been doing for years, before I even knew lymphatic drainage was a thing, I would use sweet almond oil for my skin before id go to sleep but I would massage it, by sculpting my face. So I would obviously put warmed up oil all over my face but then I would massage and push up in a upwards motion with my thumbs just below my cheekbone as if i'm sculpting my face - this would not only help with the drainage but also I felt as if i was actually sculpting my face - it sounds so silly but doing this consistently really works if you keep working in the same areas. I’ve done this consistently around my cheekbones and feel like they are more extenuated than lets say, my non existent jawline which I happen to massage every 3 months (I really need to work on this as my jawline made an exit in 2017.)
Free your skin

Sometimes your skin needs a break from chemicals, even if they’re good chemicals. Im not saying abandon your skin for a week but maybe once or twice a month, try to sleep with very little or nothing at all on your face. Also, give your skin a break from store bought products and again, once or twice a month, use a natural based remedy for the skin whether its to exfoliate with the insides of green tea bags or a tumeric and honey based face mask. Sometimes your skin may need that, and watch the progress of your skin.

Obviously also drink your 2L water and wear your spf!!!! We all think these two we can just about get away with but TRUST ME, water and spf is the keeeeeey! Some are under the illusion that we don’t need spf (I was) but I realised how much long term damage it could make if you don’t wear your spf. This is especially a must must if you wear serums or products that may cause sensitivity to your skin, (examples such as vitamin c, niacinamide, salicylic acid +/or any type of acids) which can create blemishes around your skin, further pushing you away from a clearer skin.
I hope these little treasured tips of mine help your skin this year, try to be more consistent with these and see the results shineeeee through your face! :)
until next time, T x
